Bush's plan for success.

A few excerpts from Bush's speech last night, which I missed.

"[T]he way forward depends on the ability of Iraqis to maintain security gains."

"The principle guiding my decisions on troop levels in Iraq is return on success. The more successful we are, the more American troops can return home. "

Iraqi leaders "understand that their success will require U.S. political, economic and security engagement that extends beyond my presidency. These Iraqi leaders have asked for an enduring relationship with America."

"Whatever political party you belong to, whatever your position on Iraq, we should be able to agree that America has a vital interest in preventing chaos and providing hope in the Middle East. We should be able to agree that we must defeat al Qaeda, counter Iran, help the Afghan government, work for peace in the Holy Land and strengthen our military, so we can prevail in the struggle against terrorists and extremists."

But what if it doesn't work?

George forgot to mention that the guy that said this was assasinated earlier this week!

I would imagine that this did NOT include a 65 acre 750 million dollar US Embassy with it's own water treatment and power plant! Nor for that matter 19 seperate PERMANENT military bases. After Desert Storm we were asked by Saudi Arabia (ie the Bin Laden family) to remove our bases from their land. We had to have a presence in the Middle East somewhere to protect our oil interests so we invaded Irag. Not for 9/11, not for WMD, not for Democracy, not because Hussein was a dictator. We needed a permanent military presence (plus the Bush family wanted to even the score.)

My interpretation of these statements:

1. We give them a gift they don't understand and might not want, then blame them if they can't maintain the gift, and leave ourselves open to the option of rehabilitation as needed.

2. To the troops; You will succeed whether it is possible, wise, or worth it; or you will not come home.

3. Please ignore the fact that I have created chaos, extended a war which should have taken at most 8 months, and understand that my intentions were good when I decided to colonize Iraq for it's own good and ours.

What if it does not work? It is not working, It can not work. And it will not work.
